About

A Tampere tea house for careful leaves

Wood, clay, sealed tins, and enough quiet that you can hear water settle in the pot.

Why we opened

Dinghy Dummy Tea began with a simple wish: a place in central Tampere where tea was the main event, not a side note on a coffee menu. We wanted sealed tins, weighed portions, and enough quiet that conversation could stay soft.

Hämeenkatu gives us foot traffic and daylight. Inside, we keep the palette calm — wood counters, ceramic cups, and a wall of matte canisters — so the leaves stay the strongest colour in the room. The name nods to a playful nickname from early tastings; the work itself is serious about temperature and time.

We are not a chain and not a cafe that happens to stock tea bags. Every cup on the board starts as whole or broken leaf we can smell before it meets water.

How we source

Leaf arrives through small European importers who share garden names, elevations, and picking seasons when they can. We taste in small pots, reject lots that smell dusty or over-fired, and rotate the board so nothing sits open too long.

Herbals are food-grade botanicals chosen for flavour clarity. We do not sell supplements or make health promises. A chamomile evening is simply a soft, fragrant cup for the end of a Tampere day.

People & pace

Our team learns the board by smelling dry leaf and tasting liquor side by side. Guests who feel unsure about greens or oolongs can ask for a guided first cup. Regulars often keep a favourite tin and a preferred steep time remembered behind the counter.

We hope you leave warmer, not rushed. If the room is full, wait for a seat rather than crowding a shared table. The street will still be there when your second pour is ready.
